Student Device Guide 2025

Come and be a part of our effort to use devices to help develop a new generation of creative thinkers and prepare them for the exciting opportunities that are coming their way.

DIGITAL LEARNING

EMPOWERING EDUCATION THROUGH TECHNOLOGY

In our dynamic learning environment, we embrace the digital age and recognise the importance of technology in education.

To fully participate in our classes and make the most of your educational experience, it is expected that all students come equipped with a suitable device, such as a Chromebook or laptop.

These devices will serve as your digital toolkit, enabling you to engage actively in classroom activities and take advantage of the vast array of online resources at your fingertips.

DEVICE RECOMMENDATIONS

What device should we consider?

The key requirements are that it should:

  • be light and portable
  • have a suitable sized display
  • be robust and sturdy enough for school use
  • have a protective case for transport
  • have a battery that will last the duration of the school day
  • have Google Chrome and able to operate the Google Suite of Applications
  • devices will require an attached keyboard; for this reason tablets and phones are not suitable.

Students taking language subjects will require headphones.

Do we need wifi at home?

Our school empowers students with online tools, enabling them to accomplish much of their academic tasks during school time, and with home wifi, they can conveniently complete and submit work when from home.

How much does a device cost?

If your school already uses devices, you may not need to purchase a new one. However, if you don’t have a device yet, new Chromebooks can be found in the price range of $300 to $400 (as at November 2024)

What if don’t have a device?

If you leave your device at home, our faculties have a limited pool of devices that teachers can book for their lesson, if they are available. These devices are available solely for that specific lesson and cannot be reserved for extended periods.

Do we need to purchase software?

Students are provided access to all necessary software licenses throughout their entire school tenure.

Can we purchase a device through the school?

The school does not sell devices directly. Instead, we recommend purchasing devices from trusted retailers like PB Tech and Noel Leeming. These retailers have stores located throughout Auckland and offer a wide range of suitable devices and accessories to choose from.
